We are exceptionally excited to announce that we have been awarded a Gold Tommie Award for 2016 from the CHBA Okanagan in the category of Excellence in Commercial Renovation! The award was given for our work on the Associated Contractors office space, for which we also received two Silver Tommie Awards.

Associated Contractors is a unique concept space. The purpose of the renovation was to create a hub for independent contractors to set up their headquarters. This shared office space is well integrated in a commercial complex that neighbours several complementary businesses. The Associated Contractors model provides an innovative marketing approach for its partner companies by adapting the co-working model popular in other industries to the trades & renovations industry. Associated Contractors partner businesses have the opportunity to grow by moving from home based operations to a professional office space, and by sharing resources and referrals with other reputable and accredited contractors. This collaboration has allowed each business to experience growth in leads and sales. A unique architectural feature is the second floor built to withstand lateral seismic loads. The newly constructed second floor needed to be designed with absolute structural integrity in mind and this was achieved through careful preparation, planning and execution. The original space was completely empty, usable square footage was nearly doubled by building this second floor for additional rentable offices. Other innovative design features include re-purposed concrete on the first floor, reclaimed materials throughout including sliding barn doors, wooden table tops, and the Parallam staircase with LED lighting. The warehouse space at the back of the building was insulated separately from the main office space for better climate control and increased energy efficiency. This feature in combination with the use of reclaimed materials and LED lighting throughout the space was implemented with environmental considerations in mind. When entering on the first floor you will see an open and welcoming presentation/meeting space with flat screen TVs mounted on the wall and leather couches. The furniture and light fixtures selected for the space are reclaimed, industrial inspired pieces that give you the feeling of craftsmanship, design, and quality. Couple this with feature accents like galvanized steel and modern art installations and you get the overall “industrial meets modern” vibe creating what each visitor calls the “best office space”.
