Award Winning Home Builder 2014

Award Winning Home Builder 2014

We are very excited to announce that we have won two Silver Tommie Awards for 2014! The CHBA Okanagan has honored Accent Renovations with a silver award in the following categories:  Excellence in Kitchen Renovation & Excellence in Residential Renovation.

We are very proud of this achievement! A lot of attention to detail went into this project, from beginning to end we try to demonstrate our commitment to excellence in all our renovations. The details of the project are as follows:

To allow the family to live comfortably in the home during the renovation the work area was kept under negative pressure isolation, air was HEPA-filtered and exhausted to the outdoors. Materials were sourced locally to reduce our carbon footprint. LED lighting throughout and all appliances are high-efficiency ENERGY STAR certified. New windows and larger sliding patio doors increased natural lighting. An updated fireplace provides warmth during cold winter months. All re-usable materials and fixtures removed were donated to Habitat for Humanity, and all other post construction materials were recycled.

This renovation transformed an outdated house into a modern yet warm home, to accommodate a working-professional couple with three young children. The transformation took place on the main floor where the kitchen, main entry, garage entry, family room, and powder room are located. The homeowners had specific requests to expand the kitchen and mudroom, which required major structural changes to the floor plan.

The homeowners are passionate cooks with a flair for entertaining. Increased storage and a change in floor plan created a more functional open concept layout with custom cabinets, butler’s pantry, and built-in shelving. Removal the loadbearing wall between the kitchen and dining room was achieved by installing an engineered steel beam in the ceiling. Curved stairs were updated to modern metal spindles, solid wood risers and treads, stain matched to the new engineered hardwood floor.

A more functional space was created with the existing square footage by re-arranging the layout and relocating extensive mechanical systems. Widening the main entrance and replacing the front door created a larger, more inviting entryway. The mudroom was expanded into the garage. Built-in storage, lockers, coat hooks, and shelving were added. The powder room entrance was relocated. The wall between the dining room and kitchen was removed. The existing fireplace was replaced and a ledge-stone surrounding and adjacent custom built-in bookshelves were added. The dining area was relocated to fit between the kitchen and living room to achieve the open concept layout the homeowners desired.

Quartz countertops, hard lacquer finish maple cabinets, stone backsplashes, and uniform wood flooring were chosen for durability, functionality, and style. Cabinetry and countertops were custom fit to the existing curved wall around the staircase to accommodate more counter space and storage. The modern design will remain functional for years to come.
